dual-tone multifrequency (DTMF) signaling
Sometimes called touch tone, a signaling method that uses specific pairs of frequencies within the voiceband for signals. One tone in each pair is chosen from a group of four low frequencies, and the other tone is selected from a group of four higher frequencies. The eight frequencies are 697, 770, 852, 941, 1209, 1336, 1477, and 1633 Hz.
